Activities, classes and coach trips for older users

We encourage all our older users to join in the enormous range of activities and classes offered at St Luke's Centre. Regardless of age or levels of ability, we aim to offer something to suit everybody!

Classes and activities

Everyday you can learn something new at St Luke's, usually for free. We employ specialist tutors to give weekly lessons in Beginners Art, Sewing, Ballet, Spanish, Line Dancing, Keep Fit, Ballroom Dancing, Barn dancing, Yoga, Tai Chi, Singing, and Seated exercise.

Our range of classes is always changing to meet new needs, and we are always open to new ideas.

Special events and parties

Special events are held throughout the year. Parties and entertainment always feature prominently in our annual calendar. Recent celebrations have included St George's Day and St Patrick's Day parties, a St Luke's Singers concert and a quiz and cocktail afternoon.

Outdoors pursuits

Our older users take advantage of our outdoor space as much as possible. Mini raised bed allotments can be found at the back of our grounds and these are looked after by local residents who grow their own flowers, fruit, vegetables and herbs. Although there is currently a waiting list for new allotment holders, St Luke's has its own allotment which is shared by members and staff. In addition we have a small and pleasant garden which is tended to by members.

We provide a home for 3 bee hives which are looked after by local bee keeper, Alessia Bolis. Alessia organises regular bee keeping workshops for interested people as well as honey tasting sessions and many other interesting bee-related activities!

Coach trips

We offer members the opportunity to visit seaside resorts by coach during the spring and summer months at subsidised rates. Throughout the year we also organise regular trips to the theatre, shopping centres, parks, festivals and restaurants. All outings are staffed by first aid qualified escorts and members with mobility problems are assisted by a team of staff and volunteers.
