Health, well-being and advice for older users

St Luke's supports older people's health and well-being in many ways. Quite often this involves just chatting to someone, listening to their problems, providing advocacy, filling out forms etc. Other times we provide or host a specific service such as eye tests, community nursing, and men's health screening.

Our ethos of general care

St Luke's is passionate about the health and well-being of our older visitors. We get to know who comes to our centre, and understand the individual and often get to know their family. Our Care Team are in-tune with the problems that older people can face, and will talk to our users in confidence to find out if something is troubling them.

We have a duty of care for our users and we aim to ensure they are happy and healthy.

St Luke's Heart & Stroke Club

The St Luke's Heart and Stroke Club is a specific care service delivered by staff and volunteers from Manor Gardens Heart & Stroke Club every Wednesday from 10.30am-3.30pm. Club members live in South Islington and have either had a stroke or are coping with heart problems. This friendly and sociable club offers a wide range of activities including exercise, massage, advice, advocacy and information. For membership information please telephone Pauline McLean on 020 7561 5269 or email pauline@manorgardenscentre.org.

Age Concern Advice Service

Age Concern Islington offers a fortnightly advice and information service covering a wide range of issues including welfare benefits, housing, community care, transport etc. The service is open to anyone aged 55 or over and living in Islington and the advice can be provided in English, Bangla, Hindi and Urdu. This service takes place on a Tuesday morning and appointments can be made by telephoning St Luke's Reception on 020 7549 8181.

Hair and beauty

St Luke's has a fully equipped hair salon and offers low cost hairdressing service to both ladies and men. Our hairdresser, Iris, visits the Centre every Wednesday and Thursday and can offer cuts, shampoo & sets, perms and colours etc. Please enquire at reception for costs.

St Luke's is also very fortunate to have a professional manicurist, Luisa Mullen, as one of its members. Luisa offers weekly manicures every Thursday morning for just £4. Luisa generously donates her time to this service and all income received is passed to the St Luke's User Fund.

For hairdressing or manicure enquiries and appointments, please telephone St Luke's Reception on 020 7549 8181.
