Coming up:

St Luke's was proud to organise the 2010 EC1 Summer Festival jointly with the Whitecross Street Party over the weekend of 24th and 25th July 2010.

A street party with a difference. Whitecross Street, known for its fantastic foodie street market, transformed this little south Islington street into an open-air gallery showing works of urban art from artists including Gavin Turk, Shepherd Fairey and Filthy Luker. To celebrate this, there were a host of activities throughout the weekend of 23rd -24th July offering street art, street food and street entertainment. Part of the Barbican's '101 Things to do this summer', the event included live art demonstrations, giant knitting, canival parades, silk screen workshops, childrens photo booth, stencil printing workshops, birds of prey and lots more.

St Luke's wins EC1 Team of the Year 2010

St Luke's staff were awarded the EC1 Team of the Year 2010 at tthe EC1 Pride in our People Awards Ceremony in May 2010.

This prestigious award recognises the dedication and hard work the staff and volunteers at St Luke's put into creating a welcoming atmosphere for all visitors to the Centre, helping make the EC1 area a better place to live and work, and taking St Luke's to new heights!

Well done to all the St Luke's Team!

Camden Society - our new catering partners

We are pleased to announce that the Camden Society have been awarded the contract to become our new catering partners.  Camden Society are a charity operating throughout London whose work includes providing training and work opportunities for adults with learning disabilities.

The catering service at St Luke's is changing rapidly with an expanded range of high quality and low cost menu choices, coffees and cakes, sandwiches and even breakfasts. They will also provide meeting room catering for the whole centre.

Please remember that the community cafe is open to everyone living, working or simply passing through the area.  Local residents aged over 55 who are member of St Luke's can take advanatge of subsidised prices.

 

Past events:

"A Brush with Paint"  - New adult beginners Art Class at St Luke's Centre

Everybody interested in learning how to paint and draw can now come along to a new beginners class for budding artists every Monday evening from 13th July 2009.  Classes will take place between 6.00pm and 7.30pm taught by artist Graham Roussell. There is no need to book - the cost is just £3 per class. You will be provided with initial materials.

New Community Gardening and Environmental Outreach Service

We are thrilled to take on the work that EC1 New Deal have been carrying out involving local people in horticulture on their estates and local parks, from April 2009. Heather Stabler transfers to us as will Matthew Loveday shortly. St Luke's has always involved local people in maintaining our gardens and we have recently opened our mini allotments. This new service will build on this success and helps us meet the needs of people in this urban area. Many thanks to EC1 New Deal for their initial 2 year fundin

Islington Dance Festival and Holloway Arts Festival 2009

St Luke's was proud to be part of the Holloway Arts Festival thanks to the friendships we made during our own Finsbury Arts Festival with Rowan Arts Project. Our involvement was specifically with the Islington Dance Festival, an initiative of Culture Device in collaboration with Rowan Arts Project, Holloway Arts Festival and ourselves.

FINSBURY ARTS FESTIVAL 2009

27th, 28th February & 1st March 2009

The first ever Finsbury Arts Festival was a roaring success taking place in and around St Luke's Centre. From Italian Film, arts and crafts, comedy and drumming, over 1000 visitors enjoyed the various cultural activities over this fun weekend.

Cracking the Credit Crunch Day - 1st November 2008

Despite appalling weather over 80 people came to the Centre to learn about dealing with the economic downturn. A large number of service providers were on hand to offer advice on how to reduce winter costs and bills, welfare benefits, and avoiding getting into debt and other essential financial tips.
