Business Link Service to local groups Is your organisation based in our local area, and would you benefit from professional help with your accounts, management structure, legal framework etc? If so, we have started an exciting new project to link up the private sector with local groups to offer practical advice and support. Iin partnership with EC1 New Deal for Communities we have developed a new project to promote and facilitate business engagement in the ongoing renewal of the EC1 Neighbourhood. The project will help to develop and encourage sustainable long term partnerships between corporate businesses and community organisations and schools. Over the coming months St. Luke’s will be matching community projects with corporate volunteers to support the valuable work that you undertake. This support will come in many forms, primarily through staff volunteering their time to your organisation. This may take the form of: Mentoring – A business individual supporting a member of staff from the organisation, giving them strategic and practical guidance. The mentoring could also be extended to the client groups your organisations work with. Practical Volunteering – Probably the scenario that groups are most familiar with this will take the form of a “team challenge” where teams of individuals will spend the day with you. This may be a garden or room makeover, a day trip for service users, an interview and CV workshop or indeed anything that you feel would add benefit. ProBono Support – Dealing with specific issues that arise where organisations need professional service support across four main areas, Legal, Property and Architecture, Finance and Business and PR and Marketing. To access the above assistance we will need to develop a community engagement plan for your organisation and as a first step we will be making direct contact with as many local groups that we discover over the coming weeks. Full joining instructions will be emailed out along with an agenda prior to the event. In the meantime should anyone have any queries or to RSVP please email businesslink@slpt.org.uk or telephone Ben Ahmed or Jason Tetley on 0207 549 8195
Bunhill Arts Festivaltival St Luke's is looking for local people who may have an interest in starting up an annual community arts festival for Bunhill. Our vision is to start small, perhaps with an art competition featuring paintings, drawings, pottery and photography for all ages, a mini-film festival, and a multi-cultural dance show. Over time this event could become larger with performance arts and other cultural activities. If you are interested in volunteering to help set up this event, or have experience in setting up small grass roots community arts festivals, please let us now by contacting Keren Wiltshire on 0207 549 8188 email kwiltshire@slpt.org.uk. Past events:Grow Your Own Day St Luke's and EC1 New Deal held a Grow Your Own Day on Saturday 26 April 2008 at the Centre. Her Worship, The Mayor of Islington, Councillor Barbara Smith opened the event. Over 100 people came and enjoyed a wide range of activities including pot painting, window box planting, cookery, bee keeping, and micro food farming. Highlight of the day was the official opening of the mini allotments. 18 local residents can now grow their own salads, vegetables and flowers in the warm clean air of inner city London. |
