Social facilities for older users
St Luke's Centre is well known for having an excellent range of facilities for older people including:
- Social lounge: a large and comfortable lounge with tea and coffee making facilities, large screen TV, video and DVD players, music system, newspapers, magazines, crossword puzzles, board games and craft activities.
- a licensed bar open from 12-3pm, Monday to Friday. Visitors can also play pool, snooker, short mat bowls, card games, darts and take advantage of our sun trap balcony and terrace.
- a large second floor activities room which holds classes for older people every morning and afternoon. See our activities timetable.
- ground floor and first floor activity rooms for smaller classes and group activities including bingo, gentle exercise, film afternoons, etc.
- a ground floor resource room which has a suite of 8 new PCs with Microsoft Office software, the internet, a printer, a scanner and access to a photocopier, daily newspapers, magazines and community information.
- a medical room which is used by massage therapists, an optician and community nurses.
- a large and professionally equipped kitchen which is used by our catering contractors, King's Bakery, to deliver the lunch service. The kitchen is also available for trainers to deliver cookery workshops and health eating sessions etc.
- two spacious dining rooms which are staffed by members of the care team and volunteers who offer practical assistance to members with mobility or other problems.
Book and video libraries
These extensive libraries are managed by volunteer member, Iris Carman, and can be found on the first floor. Members are able to borrow books and videos, free of charge, on the understanding that they will return them when finished.
