About us Our blog New LSO Ambassadors and free concerts Banner illustration by Dominik Gackstatter, Instagram @the_oneline_guy This year we've welcomed two new brilliant volunteers to the St Luke's team, Sophie and Hardip who are LSO Ambassadors, and are managing the relationship between St Luke's members and LSO. The LSO have kindly organised many free tickets for St Luke's staff and members, so if you're interested in attaneding an event, get in touch with Sophie or Hardip.. Hardip How long have you been coming to St Luke’s? I have been coming to St Luke’s for about 4years. I first used to come to volunteer with Key Changes and still do sometimes. What other activities / events do you take part in at St Luke’s? I support with the Over 55s and help out in the Cookery School. I also come along to the Parent Forum. What made you decide to volunteer at St Luke’s, and with the LSO? I was already volunteering but I got dragged along by Sophie to one of the lunchtime concerts. Once I went along I thought it was brilliant and want to see more ethnic people introduced to classical music. Being Asian I was not expecting to enjoy this sort of music. We went along with Carol-Ann to meet Iona (LSO) and we fell in love with the opportunity to bring classical music to a more diverse community. What are you most looking forward to doing in your new volunteer role? Building up a network of people and making them experience something new; I feel classical music is for everyone to listen to but some may finf it intimating and I want to break down that barrier. Sophie How long have you been coming to St Luke’s? I have been coming for about a year. I first came along to enquire about volunteering. What other activities / events do you take part in at St Luke’s? I have come along to the Womens Group and the Parent Forum. My daughter has been to the Cookery School and the tennis sessions. I want to start going along to the meditation circle too. I also sometimes sing at the Feel Good Friday’s. What made you decide to volunteer at St Luke’s, and with the LSO? I initially came along for a university placement but decided I wanted to use the services at St Luke’s, so became a member along with my daughter. I love to experience different types music, especially live music, and classical concerts are not something I would go along to. I think that everyone should be able to access the arts. As ambassadors we can bring along St Luke’s members who would not normally get this opportunity or feel that they would be welcome and we want to break that barrier. What are you most looking forward to doing in your new volunteer role? I am looking forward to enjoying music with my community Sophie and Hardip If you see Sophie or Hardip around, say hi and get talking about classical music!
