About us Our blog Summer Solstice Supper Club We welcomed food blogger Kali Derra along to our first every supper club - Summer Solstice Supper Club on Friday 21st June. Read her full review below. When looking for a date night, or fun activity, St Lukes’ supper club should be on your to-do list if: you enjoy communal cooking, foraging and conversations with a wide variety of people from completely different backgrounds. There’s also the added bonus of knowing that you’re giving back to the local community. The night I attended, chef Mikhail Lumanov curated an Italian inspired menu featuring a tomato and mushroom bruschetta with a beef Barolo and polenta main. However, it was the butternut squash ravioli with sage butter sauce, that was made in class, where everyone became involved in the cooking process, and, though abnormally shaped, produced a delightfully rounded and sweet entrée which any amateur chef would be proud to have made. It was, however, the decadent amaretto and almond cake that was undoubtedly the star of the show; also made by class members. Whilst I’d say the teaching and organisation was perhaps slightly hectic, there is real potential for this class to become an altogether fantastic experience for those who attend. I personally met photographers, business women, artists, and locals, as well as workers from other community centres. The free prosecco cocktail at the beginning of the evening undoubtedly loosening tongues and allowing newcomers to relax into the evening. Dinner was served in a beautiful outdoor greenhouse, with edible flowers and herbs surrounding the fairy light lit main table; it was very Instagrammable, if that’s something that takes your fancy. They do recommend that you BYOB (bring your own booze) for the duration of the cooking process and the eating, one bottle between two seems to have sufficed for the majority of attendees. Overall an enjoyable evening was had by all, and I think that, it will only get better with time and practise. Thanks for coming Kali, we hope to see you again soon!
