After school gardening for families St Luke’s Community Centre, Central Street, is running an after school gardening club for local children every Wednesday from 25th September, 4-5pm, in its Edible Yard. Children will learn where food comes from, how to sow and nurture seeds and how to make art from nature. They can also meet St Luke’s resident worms and chickens. The after school gardening club is free to members of St Luke’s, and just £3 to non-members. Children are welcome accompanied by a responsible adult. Sessions will go ahead in rain or shine, as St Luke’s has a large heated greenhouse in its Edible Yard. Poppy Fishman from St Luke’s says: “We hope local families will pop into the garden on their way home from school to explore and learn new things, it will be a chance to get their hands dirty in the soil - if they want to! It’s rare to find such a thriving green space in the middle of the City, and we want locals of all ages to be able to enjoy it.”All residents living in the area are warmly invited to register as members of St Luke’s, whatever their age. Lifetime membership will cost just £5 and benefits include priority to join in our newly-expanded programme of free/low cost classes and activities. Registration is free for anyone under 18 years of age whose parent/carer is also registering.
