The Worrall and Fuller Exhibition Fund (Charity number 312507) is looking to appoint a Chair of Governors.

Dating back to 1689, we are a small charity that supports the education and training of children and young people who live in, study in or have parents working in, the southern part of Islington – the former London Borough of Finsbury. We make grants, ranging from about £250 - £750 each, to around 25 to 30 children and young people each year for educational and vocational purpose. Our current priorities are to help meets the cost of extra-curricular, non-mainstream education and out-of-school activities. St Luke’s Centre provides us with a Clerk for the charity and financial management.

We are entering an exciting stage in the life of the charity as we await a significant boost to our financial resources, arising from a prospective land sale.  This will increase the number and size of the grants that we are able to make.  The Board of Governors is responsible for overseeing this transaction, supported by professional advisers.

As Chair you will

  • lead the charity in designing and implementing the next phase of its work, with the support of the Board
  • be copied in to all correspondence regarding the land sale and, in consultation with the Governors, take the appropriate action
  • work closely with the Clerk and deal with matters that arise between meetings in consultation with the Governors
  • agree the agenda for meetings, and receive the minutes afterwards before distribution to the Board
  • be available to lead all board meetings

Ideally as Chair of Governors you will

  • have experience of leading and chairing meetings and
  • have experience of managing organisational change, preferably in the non-profit sector
  • have experience of overseeing investment and financial management, preferably in the non- profit sector
  • be living in our area of operation, or have other connections with it
  • have an understanding of state education

The position of Chair of Governors is unpaid
