Ron Cornish Trophy Ron Cornish was a popular member of the EC1 Men's Shed and a snooker fanatic. Sadly, he died in Nov 2015, and the Shed members decided to honour his memory by organising an annual snooker tournament – The Ron Cornish Memorial Trophy Snooker Tournament. In January 2016, the inaugural year, the trophy was won by Alfie Roldan. This year is the third year the tournament has been held, and sees a further increase in the number of entrants, with 20 players taking part. Participants are all Men's Shed members and their guests. The Tournament has proven to be extraordinarily popular and attracts Men's Shed members on match days, who don’t regularly attend the Centre, with some of the men coming in to spectate and support their friends. “It’s a great idea because it gets people together”, said one of the competitors. “I like snooker and I like my friends. We can have a laugh and a joke, but we take the competition seriously”, said another. “It’s fun but it’s still serious. I want to win that trophy! The people here are fair, and we should have more tournaments.” As a consequence of the tournament’s popularity, we are now looking into starting a doubles tournament. Watch this space.
