Local resident Alexis has been a familiar face at St Luke’s for over five years with her young children taking part in lots of activities at the Centre. For the past two months she’s taken on a staffing role as a Community Organiser, with the task of providing information and answering questions around the Covid-19 vaccines, encouraging more locals to get them and also supporting our food hub.

The role is varied and rewarding. As Alexis says: “My day-to-day role is organising pop-up events in the Bunhill area to raise awareness of the benefits of the Covid-19 vaccinations, attending network meetings, speaking with the local community and identifying barriers and issues within the community and finding out why people are not wanting to take up the vaccine. This involves listening to the community and recruiting volunteer champions. I’ve also been supporting the food hub and looking after the chickens!”

Alexis is organising a series of pop-up information stands to enable her to get out and about and talk about the vaccine programme and the work of St Luke’s. She’s recently been in Fortune Park and has plans to go to several local school sports days, the Whitecross Street Party and around local estates soon. Look out for her and have a chat if you’re out and about!

As a local Alexis is keen to contribute to the community in which she lives, engaging with the local community and understanding concerns. In Alexis’ words “I love being able to engage with the local community and listen to people, I feel that it’s important to build trusting relationships with people through listening and giving out trusted information. It’s important to collaborate with other agencies so we are all working together for a stronger community that feels united.”

Alexis loves EC1 because it offers so many opportunities, with lots of green spaces and great places to eat. You’ll often find her at the King Square waterpark with her children, or enjoying some time shopping, cleaning or eating great food. Living in the busy city with her family, Alexis regularly visits St Luke’s chickens in the Edible Yard with her children to restore a sense of tranquility and calmness by connecting with nature.

It’s a pleasure to have you in the staff team, Alexis!
