We are so pleased to announce our new project with the Multicultural Women’s Group: a leaflet on domestic abuse awareness.

Women from the group, including those with lived experience of domestic abuse, thought of the idea after attending the Million Women Rise March earlier this year; stressing the need for awareness on this important topic. The group helped design the leaflet, alongside a member of St Luke’s Community Engagement Team. The Multicultural Women’s Group now supports the team to distribute the flyer during school pick-up times and also delivering them through local letterboxes and to other community groups and settings.

The women play a key role in identifying the estates, community spaces, schools and places of worship where they recommend we distribute the flyers and promote the initiative.  This timing too is essential as we are aware that the Christmas period often sees a rise in domestic abuse.

The flyer that we will share within our diverse south Islington community and includes:

  • Local domestic abuse support organisations, their contact details and a brief description of their services
  • Emergency contact numbers
  • A brief explanation of what constitutes domestic abuse, which the women will help with translations to share in their community networks

On Friday 6th February 2026, we held an event to celebrate the success of the leaflet, and how far it had reached. We celebrated on the day by distributing the leaflet around our community to 23 different estates and businesses. In the evening we had a small ‘thank you’ to all the women and staff that helped create this project:

We would like to give a big ‘thank you’ to the Mayor of London Office for Policing and Crime for kindly funding this project, the staff that worked on creating and distributing this piece; and finally to the St Luke’s Multicultural Women’s Group – an inspiring and brilliant group of local women!
