Our very first Social Community Dance was a great success!
An afternoon filled with dancing and grace, our Social Community Dance was run through our Community Champions grant scheme, allowing locals in south Islington to create and host events and activities; allowing them to give back to their community. This Community Champion was Derek, an Over 55s member of St Luke’s for over a decade. Derek proposed an afternoon dance, which we thought was a wonderful idea to bring the community together.
The event was on Saturday 5th July, attended by over 50 St Luke’s members and south Islington residents and friends. We danced a range of different styles from ballroom to tap to hip-hop! With tea and biscuits provided afterwards to all our dancers, we thank all who came and gave such warm, happy glow to our garden room with dancing on a Saturday! And as always, thank you to the staff and volunteers helping Derek at his event; we hope to host more Social Dances in the future! See below for photos of the event.
Could you be a St Luke’s Community Champion?
We have Community Champion Grants for members of our community who want to spread some happiness with a grant of up to £600 towards an event, workshop, cultural celebration – whatever would bring a smile to people’s faces and enrich our community! We’re open to ideas, so please contact Alexis, Community Engagement Team, if you would like an application form or more information about the initiative.
