Food Distribution at St Luke’s Community Centre during Covid-19 lockdown

We would like to give a special thank you to Felix Trust, Fare Share, City Harvest and Islington Council for their regular weekly delivery of food to distribute amongst others. We would also like to give a shout out to our lovely friends at the Barbican who emptied their bars of fresh fruit and juices to pass on too.

Since the 1st April we have had 3.5 tons of food donated. We have handed out over 500 bags supporting over 200 households (which will increase by the time this goes to press). We have also distributed food to other community centres across Islington.

Distributing food has been a lifeline to many families and people living alone. It has been a great way to link with many of our center users and to meet new people in the community.  We hope to have an increase in donations so that we can meet with demand and extend the food offer out further.

The St Luke’s Parent forum have been instrumental in supporting new families to their group and making them feel welcome (at a social distance of course).  Francesca has kindly written about how the food distribution has brought the community together and her daughter Sofia has added a beautiful illustration. You can read the post in our blog.

Thank you to our volunteers!

We have been inundated by local people offering to volunteer, as you can appreciate we have to adhere to very strict guidelines to ensure social distancing and have to limit how many people we have in the building.

However, it has been all hands on deck with everyone getting stuck in with the delivery and distribution of food. On the delivery of one whole ton of food we had our trustees Raymond O’Halloran & Penny Seale along with Councillor Una O’Halloran and two of our neighbours and ex colleagues Katie and Marcia support with unloading and packing.

Andrew has been in daily to ensure our terrace and garden is well looked after and keeping up to its award-winning status!

The chicken volunteers have kept to their daily rota and the chickens are in good spirit and not too lonely.

Another "thank you" to City Family Art Network who are resourcing craft packs for our families and people that are isolated.

Thank you for donating!

A huge "thank you" to every individual and organisation who has donated to our emergency appeal at this challenging time. We are so grateful for the contributions and desperate to continue our vital work with our community during lockdown. If you can spare any change, please go to our JustGiving page
