Wellbeing Hub

Our Wellbeing Hub in Central Street, South Islington is where our food hub is based. There are also regular events and activities to support wellbeing and mental health.

Wellbeing Hub South Islington

Our Wellbeing Hub opened in 2021 to support the wellbeing of people in need living in our local area. It is where our food distribution service is based – see further information below.

There are other wide-ranging services providing holistic support including our regular mindfulness classes, weekly information and advice sessions covering anything from benefits to emotional support, help manage family finances and more. We also provide signposting advice and assistance to approach other local organisations, enabling people to access the help they need. This includes access to grants offered by St Luke’s and Worrall and Fuller.

A popular initiative at the Hub is our Poetry of the Mind sessions in conjunction with Poet Steve Tasane and Islington’s Direct Action Project (DAP) from The Peel Centre. The group aims to bust stigma and share facts about wellbeing by opening up conversations around mental health. Poetry of the Mind is a series of fun and interactive workshops to raise mental health awareness, combat stress and anxiety for families with children. Read the group’s latest poem here.

St Luke’s Food Hub provides weekly groceries to locals who are on low income support and struggling financially. We’ll also introduce you to longer term support including free activities, food co-op, information and advice, Job Club and grants.

The eligibility criteria to access St Luke’s Food Hub is as follows:

  • Living in St Luke’s area of benefit (mostly EC1 postcodes) or
  • Awaiting payment of benefits or
  • No Recourse to Public Funds.
  • Living on a low income.

A member of the household will be able to pick up food at an allocated time slot once a week.

The low income support is available for eight weeks and during this time we will be pleased to introduce you to other support services including the Food Co-op, employment support, signposting to Information and Advice to assist with benefit checks, bills, debt and local grants. You will also be able to join various wellbeing activities including healthy cooking on a budget (including our new Adult Cook and Eat class), family feast, mindfulness sessions and much more.

If you are struggling and would benefit from the Food Hub, please contact Tsedal.
